Step inside the Royal West of England Academy and experience Light and Inspiration, the most significant restoration this cultural landmark has seen in over a century.

For 175 years, the RWA has been a space in which everyone is encouraged to nurture their talent, show their work, and be inspired by great art from the past and present. This exciting restoration project has transformed the galleries, facilities and visitor experience to allow the RWA to continue to promote and celebrate the arts within the vibrant city of Bristol for generations to come.

Led by director Alison Bevan and architect Nick Childs, this tour offers a unique insight into this incredible project, and the history of the RWA.

Join Andy Gray from Exploring Through Drawing for this introduction to urban sketching. You will learn how to sketch the distinctive features of buildings through the effective use of line and tone. The session is an ideal start for those looking to develop sketchbook work, include buildings in their artwork, or use drawing as a tool to explore their urban surroundings. A great way to begin, improve, or refresh your level of drawing, using pencil in a friendly environment on Bristol harbour. Explore form, proportion, and simple perspective drawing, using local buildings as the focus. Andy Gray specialises in observational drawing and painting. Andy currently teaches regular courses and workshops at Bristol Folk House, having previously taught drawing for many years within HE and FE. This is a 2-hour session and you will need to bring an A4 sketch pad, a 2B/4B pencil, and a camping chair. Dress appropriately for the weather.
